Any Chicago Locals have ideas?

Hello!! Myself and a friend are visiting Chicago for a week at the end of may. We're from a small southern town and neither of us have ever been to a big city! Anyone here live/been to Chicago and have any ideas for where we should definately not leave without checking out? We wanna check out restaurants, bars, shopping, festivals, anything and everything! Thanks in advance guys!!Any Chicago Locals have ideas?
i visited for the first time last year. it was such a great city to visit.

definitely go see navy pier. my husband and i rented bikes there and rode south along the lake. it was so fun.

he was in seminars a lot so my friend from outside of chicago came into town on the train and took me to Gino's pizza which was cool and then we walked right over to this adorable place you HAVE to go to called Ed Debevic's. 640 N. Wells Street. truthfully, after gino's pizza, i wished we would have eaten at Ed Debevic's instead. it was a cool place and gino's is fun to see but their pizza wasn't the best. i liked the menu at debevics. anyway, at debevics we went for dessert and they had the world's smallest hot fudge sundae. it was the cutest thing you ever did see. the place is known for the crass behavior of the wait staff. they say things like "sit down and figure out what you want, i don't have all day" or whatever. just roll with it. it's fun. it's part of their job. don't take offense.

we went to the top of the sear's tower which was cool. we didn't plan it but we ended up arriving right when the sun was about beginning to set. it was beautiful!!!

we weren' there very long so we didn't get a lot in, but we are going back in september this year and i can't wait.

this time we are renting bikes again and going north. the zoo is up that way. also i plan to go to wrigley field, tho the cubs will be out of town, darn it.

i think it was called rush street where we spent one night bar hopping. hic! didn't mean to, just ended up that way. no regrets! it was a good time. so ya, rush street is the place where a lot of happening bars are.

i'm not a huge shopper, but michigan avenue, known as the magnificent mile has tons of upscale shopping you won't find in your small southern town.

we didn't rent a car. we took the train or taxi around.

well, have a great time!!!

I'm from CA and can't wait to go back.
go to the website metromix.com they list all of the things going on in chicago..you have to see a play, a basball game, shedds aquarium, the museum of natural science, the miracle mile *michigan ave* its so fun in chicago!!Any Chicago Locals have ideas?
i live in chicago!! definitly if it is going to be warm out, go to Navy Pier. it is outdoors, there is some shopping, places to eat, there is a huge faresswheel that is a lot of fun, a great place to spend the day. if it is a rainy day, then go to a museam or the Shedd Aquarium. there is a whole like campus kinda thing with all the museams, planatarium, aquarium, etc. also try some travel websites, sorry i cannot type a lot i gotta get to bed.
You definitely would want to go to Navy Pier, Millennium Park, walk down the Magnificent Mile and check out the Museums. All or most of that is located in the heart of downtown Chicago...and also Buckingham fountain is pretty (don't know if it will be lit up just then). There are great things to see, also taking a boat ride is nice to see the scenery.
