where are the best restaurants and entertainment areas?
btw: i enjoy shopping!!Chicago events for first week of August?
You could go to Gurnee Mills (it's a huge shopping mall). They have just about everything you want/need.

If you like amusement parks, there's also a Six Flags Great America nearby.

As for restaurants, you should definitely try Brown's Chicken. It's fried chicken (I don't know if you eat that though, or if you're vegetarian), and it's the best fried chicken ever (I eat a lot of fried chicken, and I think it's the best fried chicken anywhere). Also their golden fried mushrooms are the best (I haven't been able to find fried mushrooms anywhere else).
