My mom and I are planning a trip to Chicago in a few weeks (just the 2 of us; no husbands, no kids!) and want to know if anyone has been there lately? Preferably the King Tutankhamun Exhibit. Is it worth seeing? What other exibits are really good there? Also, for all of you that live in or near Chicago, what else do you suggest doing while in town? We will be there for 2 days; a Wendnesday and Thursday. What are some nice restaurants (that are not too expensive)? This is our 1st trip to Chicago. Thanks to anyone who can suggest some fun things to do while in town.Is anyone here familiar with the field museum in Chicago?
The Tutankhamen exhibit is a little pricey, but, well worth it. Sue the T-Rex is amazing. As for other stuff, the Shedd aquarium and Adler Planetarium in the "museum campus" are great. There is also the lake shore, Grant Park, State Street, the new Millennium park with the "bean" (A very different sculpture.) There are also some great theatre choices at various prices. As for resteraunts, there are too many to name them all, but, I like Charlie Trotters.
P.S. You may want to purchase your Field Museum tickets online well in advance to ensure that you get into the exhibits. the Web address is www.fieldmuseum.org
yeah its worth seeing u gotta go to state strret all nice shops r there navy pier rain forest cafe hard rock cafe and joes crab shackIs anyone here familiar with the field museum in Chicago?
O.K., here's the real deal, the field museum is great, the king tut exhibit is very good though 25 dls is a bit steep. Do not leave Chicago without visiting the following places
The museum of science and industry
Navy Pier(you know the place with the giant Ferris wheel)
The Art Institute
Millennium Park
At least one theater, there are so many and so many great shows going on every day(my personal recommendation is Blue Man Group at the briar street theater.) Needless to say 2 days are not nearly enough for Chicago, enjoy your stay!!!
uno's pizza down town,great pizza
I live there and the Field Museum is good, but try thr Museum of Science and Industry or the Shedd Aquraium with the Oceanarium. As far as eating the is quite a few. For breakfast and lunch you can try Beef and Brandys 120 South State Street. Very reasonable and good food. For dinner you should give Millers Pub a try. They have fantastic food and really not very expensive. Chicago is a great place to live and visit. Ask the hotel where you will be staying for tip too. But the 2 resturant I have mentioned I am very familiar with. My daughter works at the Beef and Brandy and I used to work for Millers Pub and that is located at 109 South Wabash. Enjoy your trip.
I'm a life member in the Field.
Several Michigan Avenue buses go directly there--ask the driver before you board. The Field is a magnificent place to be, and it contains exhibits that are world famous. Don't miss the Tut Exhibit, look for the Tsavo Lions from The Ghost and the Darkness. Check out SUE right inside the main hall. See the basement exhibits of Egyptology. Across the street visit the Shedd Aquarium. You might even have time to walk down to the Planetarium. Note that they all have admissions. If you have teacher or student credentials, see if they get you reductions.
Take the Michigan bus to the Cultural Center and check out the room full of literature on Chicago sights to see. Walk or cab to North Michigan Avenue to Water Tower Place, where you can hit the shops and go up in the Hancock. Walk during the day, cab it at night. Stay out of the subway; stay above ground. Ask for directions from anyone in a uniform.
If you have time, see the Art Institute on South Michigan--across from Benegans. If you want to see a show, try the Hot Tix vendor on Randolph for same day cut rate tickets.
Two days is not enough, but enjoy our city--it will surprise you! B.
The Field Museum is great, not to be missed. The Tut exhibit may not match the British or Cairo Museums but I thought it was very educational. Hit the Shedd Aquarium while you are there unless you have just been to Sea World or the Monterrey Bay Aquarium.
Take a ride to the top of John Hancock building and a river cruise can be fun. Walk Michigan ave. Take the El around "the Loop" You can buy multi day transit passes that make it really easy to ride the bus and subways. The transportation system is about the best in any US city. No need for a car, which is expensive to park.
ITS THE BEST. I WORKED THERE. UNTIL I GOT FIRED.I WAS THE JANITOR
Tuscany on Taylor street.
Its a lovely place. I spent two days checking out the exhibits. When I visited they had this great hall of totem poles and wonderful and scary African masks. And yes the Eygptian exhibit is top notch. Check out the Museum of Art while you are there.\
Have a great time!
Yes. It's so coool. You should go if you want to. It's worth it.
