Is California the only state that requires you pay a $30 to PARK in a National Forest?

Is California the only state that requires you pay a $30 to PARK in a National Forest?

I live in Los Angeles. Directly behind Los Angeles is a gigantic National Forest, the Angeles National Forest. 10,000 foot peaks, Nelson Bighorn Sheep, bear, deer, mountain lion, etc. It is generally considered the most crime ridden and dangerous National Forest in America.

But, if you live in second largest city in America, and the largest (by population) county in America (Los Angeles County, 9 million people) then a forest only 30 minutes away is a pretty good thing.

I had a rather bad day at work. One of my students with emotional problems left my class during math and then took a dump in the urinal. And the custodian noticed that the dump had a tapeworm in it. So I had to fill out a referral to mental health services as well as health services. No, the school nurse would not fill out the forms. So I left right after work and drove to watch the sun go down in the National Forest. As I was sitting there, drinking a low fat organic buttermilk, and enjoying being alone and away from people, the damnable light green Forest Service Truck pulled up? Did I have my $30 Forest Adventure Pass? I needed to have one to PARK in the Forest, didn't I know. Yes, I had it. The ranger then used the opportunity to ask me if I minded if he searched my vehicle (yes, I mind. Why? Officer I never consent to any seaches for any reason.) He then asked for my driver's license, wrote down my license plate and then told me that if I didn't consent to be searched, that was grounds for a search. I refused again, and he informed me that he would remember me. Your government at work. I cannot believe I have to PAY to park in a National Forest supported by MY tax dollars. Does any other state do this, or does only California do this?Is California the only state that requires you pay a $30 to PARK in a National Forest?
Dude, since there is no way of sending you a pm or something, I just wanted to get this over, nothing to do with the question: just read your answer on that question about the most stupid thing on the range.

I麓m not gay, but I hate to see harassment of any kind. Maybe because I麓m half german and after WWII, we just can麓t take that... against blacks, whites, gays, whatever. I hate it. We are all humans, no matter what. There are good and bad humans in my opinion, but being black, white, gay or straight does not make you one. Being a racist or bully, does.

I used to be interested in psychology, and I can tell you this harassment is nothing more than the childish will to feel stronger than somebody else. So lots of idiots are looking for a punching bag... gays seem to look like a good one. I lived in the US, in Germany and am currently in Argentina. Even though gays suffer quite a bit in Argentina, the US is the worst. I am an American citizen, and I am willing to say that our country really needs to grow up and that it sucks, in fact. Racism, harassment of gays, all that crap is really bringing us down and making many people unhappy.

I麓m absolutely not a hippie, but a little PEACE in our own country wouldn麓t do no harm.

BTW, I really admire that you managed to stay calm and not to shoot that lunatic at the range.

I guess this will get a lots of thumbs down, but I don麓t care. It just proves what I say, everybody against the gay guy and anybody willing to help him. How frustrating.

Kevin
A lot of state parks have access fees, here in wyoming they cost $5. The Park Ranger sounds like a narc wanna be, looking for the big bust.

"Low fat, organic buttermilk"??! That even such a concoction is made is an abomination. . ., grab a beer, man, even a Bud Light. Is California the only state that requires you pay a $30 to PARK in a National Forest?
Nice to know that the Forest Adventure includes the adventure of being hassled by a bullying cop that will lie to you about your fourth amendment rights. After all, a teacher in a Honda Insight looks like an insane criminal.
Probably, kinda sad too. Our tax dollars pay to maintain them. This is what happens when you live in an entitlement society.
I think Arizona has some forests that are now part of the same program too.
No, there is a fee to enter all national forests.
I don't know. We don't have any National Forests in the state that I live in.
Unfortunately, the "RAT" (Recreational Access Tax) only applies to the 4 National Forests in southern California. It is the US Forest Service that requires this fee, not the state. In fact, the State Legislative Counsel determined that the Forest Service could NOT cite people for merely parking on state highways. However, since it is an access fee, if there is evidence/proof of the occupants "entering" the forest, the Forest Service can cite the occupants for not having a Forest Adventure Pass.

Not all areas of these forests require the pass, and the areas that require the pass are supposed to be marked; however they are poorly marked and Forest Service Personnel frequently attempt to require the pass in areas where it is not actually required. Just like the guy who told you that refusal to allow a search is probable cause to search your vehicle is complete BS. A court decision specifically addressed this issue and stated that simple refusal to consent to a search was not probable cause to justify an exigent search or to secure a search warrant. Never consent to any warrantless search.
Yes . They are the only ones that put a $30 fee on parking . I remember when it was $15 when it started around 15 years by some nut job lady . She liked to ride horses , so she allows them . However , she didn't like bicycles , so she banned them from the trails .
