Need help; confused on taxes/tax returns?

I live in Chicago. Im 19 years old, I started working in a restaurant in mid August of this year. I also have son and he is one year old (with 9 nine months). Sorry but I have no idea on how to do this. My parents aren't much help. And I have heard a few say that you get more money if you have a son/daughter. What does having a kid do with this? however i did put him as my dependent on the forms i filled out at my job. and since ive worked there u have never completed the 40 hours. the most ive worked in a week were 37 hours and the least would be anout 20 hours. each week varies. what can i do? each week they take out from $30-$50Need help; confused on taxes/tax returns?
You will probably get the Earned Income Credit for having a child along with an extra exemption for him. I would use the Free File available on the IRS once it becomes available after January 15, 2010. You can use it to fill out your tax returns and they will file online. You can even have your refund direct deposited into your account in about 10 days.Need help; confused on taxes/tax returns?
If your son is your dependent, you can most likely get an Earned Income Credit for him - the amount depends on your total earned income for the year, from your job including tips.

Your tax return won't be real complicated, but you probably want to get some help with it. Look for a VITA or TCE site in your area (see http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0鈥?/a> ) where people will do your taxes at no charge. You can also go somewhere like H%26amp;R Block but they'll charge of course since it's their business.
