Can pink eye be transmitted by air or standing/sitting too close to someone?

I am working to clear up my pink eye. I notice when someone says they have pink eye that people step back.

When I had pink eye back in February around my 26th birthday this year, the doctor at the emergency room stupidly wrote on the letter that its ok for me to return to work. She expected the infection to clear in 2 days just because I had unknowingly had it for 4 weeks.I finally went to the emergency room because my eye kept watering non stop.I was relieved to find out it was pink eye.I went back to work on the date that the note said it was ok.My bosses were mad and stepped back and some residents at the nursing home I work at, kicked me out their room.I had to wear a patch on one of my eyes because it was watery and really itchy.

I had pink eye on my 26th birthday and was determined not to let it get me down.I actually went all the way to Lincolnshire,Illinois from Chicago to Red Robin eye patch and all.My best friend's mom said that I probably infected 6 people in that restaurant and said that I could have went out after my infection cleared. But I didn't want to be cooped up in the house on my birthday.

Is pink eye transmitted by air or sitting close?I notice people move away when a person says they have pink eye.

I had to tell my coworkers recently to please not tell the boss that I have pink eye.One of my coworkers said that the boss may send me home.I had to wear the patch yesterday because my eye was just too itchy.I don't want to miss work, so the coworkers have been keeping it a secret. Can pink eye be transmitted by air or standing/sitting too close to someone?
While highly contagious, pink eye is spread by physical contact either with the person who has it, or with personal items the person has used - for example, towels - and the best prevention is frequent handwashing.

Pink eye can show up when you least expect it, and it is very contagious. There is more than one type of pink eye, and how you treat it depends on the type. If it is bacterial you need antibiotic ointment or drops. There is no particular treatment for viral pink eye. If it is an allergy that is causing your difficulty you may need anti-inflammatories or antihistamines. Frequent hand washing is crucial to prevent spreading the virus or bacteria, depending on which type you have. There is also something called CLARE, or contact lens induced acute red eye. Sleeping in contacts makes the eye more susceptible to inflammation/infection.

Pink eye is highly contagious. If you rub your eye and touch something and someone touches it after you they can rub their eyes and get it. It spreads like a cold. If you are in the contagious stage, stay home. Your doctor can explain when it is contagious and when it is pass that stage. Be aware, don't share! Can pink eye be transmitted by air or standing/sitting too close to someone?
Cases of pinkeye that are caused by bacteria and viruses are contagious. (Conjunctivitis caused by allergies or environmental irritants are not.)

A child can get pinkeye by touching an infected person or something an infected person has touched, such as a used tissue. In the summertime, pinkeye can spread when kids swim in contaminated water or share contaminated towels. It also can be spread through coughing and sneezing. Doctors usually recommend keeping kids diagnosed with contagious conjunctivitis out of school, day care, or summer camp for a short time.

Someone who has pinkeye in one eye can also inadvertently spread it to the other eye by touching the infected eye, then touching the other one.
