I need a job as a server starting June 1st. There are A LOT of restaurants in my area.
Chili's, Outback, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Elephant Bar, Applebee's, Johnny Carino's, Tony Roma's, Uno Chicago Grill, Black Angus, Denny's, Cindy's, Mimi's, Mike's Roadhouse, Red Robin, plus a lot of privately owned restaurants.
Does anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with any of these places? (I'm not 21 yet so no bartending) Also, I live in N. California. I need to pick the place that will get me the most money possible. I want to work full time or at least 30hours a week.Which restaurant is better to work at?
Is it really your choice? Are all those restaurants hiring servers at 30+ hours a week? I'd apply at all, try to interview with them all so that you have an opportunity to tell them what it is you need and what it is you have to offer them!
Next, I'd ask some of the employees at each one how they like working there. Ask if they are happy.
No single named restaurant is a better one to work at, it is the management and how the management team runs, that is what makes a place good or bad to work for. Restaurant work is restaurant work no matter where you go.....it's the management that makes the difference!
So ask the current employees (not previous employees) what it is like to work there! That should help you decide.
If you're not 21 (or whatever the legal drinking age is), I don't believe you can get a job in any restaurant that serves alcohol, even if you don't actually serve the alcohol. Denny's doesn't serve alcohol, but I think all the rest of those do (with the exception of maybe Red Robin, but I'm not sure about that one).
Servers (or waiters) don't earn much at all. In fact, you'll probably get less than minimum wage and rely on tips to make up the difference.Which restaurant is better to work at?
Uno is an alright place to work. I used to make good tips there. Chain restaurants are so strict. It really generally sucks to work at any of them. Breweries are the best to work for. The co-workers are cool and the tips are huge.
Denny's is crap. Outback is cool and great tips at Olive Garden. Dave and Busters you make bank.
